The Walkman player is not recognized by the computer.

If the computer does not recognize the Walkman, determine which of the following conditions applies and try the corresponding solution.


The message USB CONNECT or USB MASS STORAGE is displayed on the Walkman.

This message indicates that the Walkman is correctly recognized by the computer.
Check if the Walkman is recognized by the music management application.

Media Go
If the application recognizes the Walkman correctly, the model name of the Walkman will be displayed as shown below:

 If the model name of the Walkman is not displayed, try the following:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Launch the music management application (such as Media Go).
  4. Connect the Walkman to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

If the computer still does not recognize the Walkman, there may be a problem with the application or computer environment.

Try the following steps to reinstall the music management application (such as Media Go). If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

  1. Uninstall Media Go from the computer.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Reinstall Media Go.

After you finish the installation, check if Media Go recognizes the Walkman.

NOTE: If you are using an older version of Media Go, the problem may be resolved with an update. Update the application to the latest version and check if Media Go recognizes the Walkman.


The Home menu screen is displayed on the Walkman

This indicates that the Walkman is not recognized correctly by the computer.
The following steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Reset (reboot) the Walkman.
    Refer to the following for the resetting procedure.

  2. Connect the Walkman to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
    If the computer does not recognize the Walkman, try inserting the USB cable into another USB port.

    IMPORTANT: The Walkman may not be recognized if it is connected via a USB hub. Be sure to use the supplied USB cable.

  3. Set the Walkman to the USB connection mode.
    NOTE: This function may not be available depending on the model.

    The following setting procedure is just an example. Refer to the Manual for details.
    1. Select Settings in the Home menu.
    2. Select Common Settings.
    3. Select USB Connection Mode.
    4. Select Yes.

    The Walkman will enter the USB connection standby state and the USB connection standby screen will be displayed.

  4. Check if the device driver that allows the computer to recognize the Walkman is working correctly.

Nothing is displayed on the Walkman (the screen of the Walkman is black)

The battery of the Walkman may be extremely low. Charge the battery.
  1. Connect the Walkman to the computer to charge the battery for about an hour.

    NOTE: If the battery is almost completely depleted, nothing will be displayed on the screen for a while even after you connect the Walkman to the computer.Although a message will appear once the battery has charged to a certain level, continue charging the battery.

  2. Connect the Walkman to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

    NOTE: The Walkman may not be recognized if it is connected via a USB hub. If the computer does not recognize the Walkman, insert the USB cable into another USB port.

  3. Resetting (rebooting) your Walkman
    If nothing is displayed on the screen even after you have performed the procedure above, consider having the Walkman inspected and repaired.

The Walkman does not have a screen

  1. Make sure the terminals of your Walkman are clean.

    NOTE: If the Walkman does not turn on even after you have charged the battery, consider having the Walkman inspected and repaired.

    If the Walkman turns on:
    • Reset (reboot) the Walkman.
    • Attach your Walkman to the USB cradle(supplied).
    • Make sure that the terminals of your Walkman and USB cradle are in contact with each other.
    • The Walkman may not be recognized if it is connected via a USB hub. Be sure to use the supplied USB cable.

  2. Check if the device driver that allows the computer to recognize the Walkman is working correctly.
