Translucent Mirror Technology is an exclusive new-generation Sony technology that enables high-speed, high-precision, phase-detection AF to be used for both still-photo and Full HD movie shooting, via either the finder or LCD monitor

As the first interchangeable-lens digital cameras in the world to use a translucent mirror, the α55 and α33 eliminate the need to raise and lower the mirror, enabling ultra-fast continuous shooting at class-leading speeds of up to 10 fps in Continuous Priority AE mode.

  

Light reflects off the translucent mirror to an AF sensor above, enabling full-time, high-speed, phase-detection AF with uninterrupted live view for both photo and movie shooting.

  

The large, high-resolution Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor in the α55 (16.2 megapixels) and α33 (14.2 megapixels), utilizes an advanced low-noise design for superior still-photo and Full HD movie quality.

  

The remarkable new Tru-Finder boasts 100% frame coverage. It also offers a choice of information displays, and lets you preview the effects of camera settings before taking a photo.

Translucent Mirror Technology also contributes to a significant reduction in camera size and weight. Compared to the α550, for example, the α55 is 23% smaller and 26% lighter, and the α33 is 23% smaller and 28% lighter.
