New Zealand

In 2010, Sony New Zealand set an industry benchmark by making quality 3D entertainment and IPTV a reality for New Zealand living rooms. Today, the company unveiled its 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up, offering consumers a smarter, more sophisticated and more social entertainment experience as it redefines television yet again.
“What has been referred to in the past as an ‘idiot box’ has now become the smartest device in the house. The new 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up offers New Zealanders a gateway to an enormous and dynamic world of content and only Sony can provide this range of on-demand entertainment now, when consumers want it,” said Matt Smith, General Manager, Consumer Marketing at Sony New Zealand.
“The new BRAVIA TV line-up, which is founded on Sony’s unrivalled picture quality, means that whether you’re watching 2D or 3D content, an online program via BRAVIA Internet Video or streaming music through Qriocity, all entertainment looks better on a BRAVIA,” Smith continued.
The next evolution in online entertainment (Sony Internet TV)
The 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up delivers instant access to online entertainment and services through BRAVIA Internet Video, Sony’s IPTV service. With a broadband internet connection, New Zealand households can tune into over 20 Internet channels, including YouTube, Billabong and MoshCam. With BRAVIA Internet Video, viewers can also access Sony’s newly announced music streaming service, “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity”, to discover new music or stream their favourite tracks straight to the living room.
In addition to social networking and web searching abilities, the 2011 models feature Sony’s new Track ID powered by Gracenote, which analyses any selected song playing on the TV – whether it’s during a movie, TV program or advertisement – and identifies it online.
Skype built-in to your TV
Selected BRAVIAs will also feature Skype. After connecting the Sony camera and microphone (CMU-BR100, sold separately) viewers can enjoy free widescreen Skype-to-Skype video calls with friends and family from the comfort of the couch (Internet connection required). Video calls can also be made simultaneously while watching TV, allowing viewers to chat and enjoy their favourite shows with friends.
The new 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up can also be controlled via ‘Media Remote App’ – a free download available from the iTunes store and the Android Marketplace. Once downloaded, the application acts as a remote control for the 2011 BRAVIA TVs and also allows viewers to browse BRAVIA Internet Video.
State-of-the-art picture quality and design
The 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up continues Sony’s leadership in picture quality and benchmark in minimalist TV design.
The new X-Reality PRO Picture Engine and X-Reality Picture Engine is designed to optimise and process incoming content to deliver brilliant picture quality – whether it’s 3D, HD, SD or low resolution Internet content. In selected new models, Sony’s Intelligent Peak LED Backlight uses full array local dimming for outstanding on-screen contrast while Sony’s OptiContrast Panel creates a rich and vibrant picture, even in well-lit rooms. Sony’s Motionflow XR also helps reduce blur caused by quick movements and enhance image sharpness.
The sophisticated and stylish BRAVIA HX and NX Series feature Sony’s improved Monolithic Design concept that draws viewers into the picture when the TV is turned on and blends into the room décor when turned off. The new Monolithic Design models also incorporate bespoke Corning Gorilla Glass – an exceptionally tough yet sleek material, perfect for families and those looking to protect their TV from everyday wear and tear.
Designed to suit modern living rooms with low-set furniture, an optional Display Stand with Active Speaker System is also available with select BRAVIA HX and NX Series models+. The unique stands complement the Monolithic Design of the range and allow the BRAVIA TV to be set up in a 6°upwards tilt for comfortable viewing. The Display Stand with Active Speaker System is also equipped with built-in speakers (2.1 ch/20W) that, when connected to a BRAVIA TV via a HDMI cable, produce exceptional sound quality.
Expanding the Sony 3D story
Other developments in this year’s BRAVIA 3D line-up include panel drive enhancements that deliver quicker response time helping to reduce crosstalk, 5:5 pull down for a more realistic cinematic movie experience and built-in 3D emitters on all 3D models.
The new BRAVIA Full HD 3D* models can also display 3D images taken with Sony’s new Cyber-shot cameras via USB input, increasing the 3D content users can view.
Sony’s Active Shutter 3D glasses are now rechargeable and have a new lightweight design for a more comfortable fit. The unique Active Shutter glass technology minimises flicker and enables viewers to enjoy an immersive, Full HD 3D experience for hours. The new glasses are also backwards compatible with the 2010 BRAVIA range, and the 2010 3D glasses will be compatible with the 2011 BRAVIA range.
The 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up includes 12 Full HD 3D* models and 19 Internet connected models. In all, the range features 22 TVs – from affordable HD models, to entry level 3D TVs to flagship BRAVIA models offering best-in-class picture quality and the complete entertainment experience.
